How long will it take to get my floor done? For a typical 600 square foot job, it should take approximately 2 days to install the wood and 3 days to sand and apply 3 coats of finish. All prep work (removal of furniture, existing flooring, baseboard, etc.) must be completed prior to installation commencing. This, of course, can vary based on difficulty and working conditions. We will need about 3 weeks notice to schedule site delivery for the more common types of wood floors (i.e. Red Oak, White Oak). We may need longer for specialty or exotic woods. Once the wood is available, it needs to be acclimated on-site until the moisture content measures in the 6.0-8.0% range, to avoid any issues with shrinkage after installation due to our dry climate. This acclimation process can take up to two weeks depending on the initial moisture content reading of the wood when it is delivered. |

How should I clean my hardwood floor? The most important thing to do is to first vacuum and dust mop regularly, and as often as necessary. For some families and most business, this may mean daily. Damp mop only as needed, i.e., when the floor is dirty. Even then, cleaning on a spot basis will suffice. Often the maid service will want to do this weekly, but that will cause the finish to wear faster. When you do need to clean the floor, only use cleaning products recommended by your flooring contractor. You should not use anything that leaves a residue. Even the products that spray on the mop have silicones that can interfere with the finish. Use as little water as possible. Go back over the area with a dry towel to make sure water does not sit on the surface. Put an area rug in front of the sink, to keep water off the floor. You should never use waxes, oils, or chemicals to clean your floor. DO NOT use Murphy's Oil Soap. The problem with waxes, oils, and chemicals is that they will cause a bad reaction if/when you recoat your wood floor. |

How can I keep my floor from color changes? As most any wood product ages it's color will change. This change is most often influenced by the nature of the wood species and by light intensity or oxidation. Other factors involve the finishing materials used on the flooring. The finish products themselves also change color with age. The degree of change for finishes is influenced by light intensity and "UV" blockers in the finish. |
